Volvo Trucks South Africa will participate in the upcoming Truck Test 2026, as part of what is set to be Africa's largest commercial vehicle comparison event.

Taking place from 11 to 12 November, Truck Test will bring together 20 trucks from 13 manufacturers and provide local fleet operators and transport businesses with valuable insights into vehicle productivity, efficiency and overall transport performance under identical real-world operating conditions.

Volvo Trucks has entered two Truck Tractor models, the FH500 6×4 Globetrotter (Euro 6) and FH520 6×4 Globetrotter (Euro 3), both designed for demanding long-haul operations. The test will evaluate how effectively participating vehicles balance fuel consumption, productivity and average operating speed while completing the same route and carrying comparable payloads. For Volvo Trucks, it presents an opportunity to demonstrate the real-world capabilities of its long-haul offering alongside competing vehicles.

"Truck Test will provide a controlled environment in which the two Volvo Trucks entries can be assessed alongside rival vehicles facing the same route and operating requirements," said Takalani Tshirame, Senior Manager: Product Support, Volvo Trucks South Africa. "The event provides valuable insight into the factors that matter most to transport operators, including productivity, operating efficiency and vehicle performance under real-world conditions. Apart from the event's official tracking statistics, both trucks will also be monitored through Volvo Connect, allowing us to gather our own data throughout the event."

The Volvo FH stands out as one of the world's most successful and iconic heavy-duty long-haul trucks due to its driver-first design, fuel-saving aerodynamics and pioneering safety systems. The 6×4 configuration of both vehicles also reflects the requirements of many South African extra-heavy applications, where traction, stability and durability are important considerations. Combined with efficient powertrains and advanced transport solutions, these features contribute to the productivity and operational performance expected from modern long-distance transport vehicles.

For Volvo Trucks, participation in Truck Test is part of a broader commitment to understanding how vehicles perform in practical working environments. Before any product reaches the market, it is subjected to extensive testing and development.

Durability and quality are the results of engineering excellence, alongside a focus on safety and supporting efficient freight movement throughout the full transport cycle.

Beyond the vehicles themselves, operators will also be watching the competition to gauge each manufacturer's wider ownership proposition. In practice, a truck's value depends not only on fuel consumption or on-road performance, but also on service support, parts availability and the ability to keep vehicles productive over time. Volvo Trucks' nationwide dealer network provides customers with the convenience of operating through a single account across the country, helping simplify administration and ensuring consistent support wherever their routes take them.

Official Truck Test 2026 results and performance data will be published by FOCUS on Transport & Logistics magazine following the event in mid-November 2026. Volvo Trucks will also share more information about the experience and results directly with customers.
